Sutanuka Jashu

Updated: Apr 26

Sutanuka Jashu, a native of West Bengal, India, cultivated her artistic passions from an early age. Her formative years in a small town laid the foundation for a profound connection with the world of art, setting the stage for a future defined by creativity and design.

Sutanuka's academic journey led her to the Maya Academy of Advanced Cinematics, where she engaged with the intricacies of animated structures. Proficient in software such as Autodesk 3ds Max, Autodesk Maya, Cinema 4D, and Pixologic ZBrush, she honed her technical skills while retaining a keen artistic sensibility. Currently enrolled in the Master's in Architecture program at the Confluence Institute under the esteemed guidance of Odile Decq, Sutanuka seamlessly integrates her artistic acumen with architectural principles.

With a professional journey spanning over six years, Sutanuka navigated diverse roles within exhibition and concept design in prominent Indian firms. Ascending from a junior project manager to the elevated position of Senior Design Manager, she contributed significantly to the retail, interior, and exhibition sectors, embodying the confluence of her diverse skill set.

In recognition of her commitment to excellence, Sutanuka earned accolades such as an Honorable Mention for Student Creator of the Year at the 2023 Architizer Vision Awards and the third prize for the WASA World Champion Bronze Medal. Her work, featured in prestigious publications including the Drawing on One Drawing Challenge by Architizer, Architecture Urbanism Blog, and Ars Electronica, stands testament to the impact of her creative exploration.

Sutanuka's artistic expressions transcend conventional boundaries. Her creations, a symphony of generative and speculative visions, not only captivate visually but also resonate emotionally. Each piece is a meticulously crafted narrative, where technology and art harmonize to evoke profound emotions and tell compelling stories.

As she stands at the crossroads of art, technology, and architecture, her gaze is fixed on a future where these realms seamlessly intertwine. Eager to contribute meaningfully and embrace new challenges, her narrative encapsulates the dynamic interplay of artistic ingenuity, technological innovation, and architectural finesse.

Project:

MediaSculpt: Bridging Materiality, Media Technology, and Cultural Synthesis in

Architecture

"MediaSculpt" is a research project that explores the transformative intersection of

materiality, media technology, and cultural synthesis in architectural design. Inspired by

ancient Indian architecture principles and traditional spatial concepts, this project seeks

to adapt and reinterpret these elements using modern technology, creating a fusion of the

past and the present. The integration of media technology, including augmented reality,

interactive projections, and responsive surfaces, enhances architectural narratives and

user experiences. Additionally, the project investigates the implications of integrating

artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms and generative design techniques in architectural

creation, challenging traditional notions of authorship and agency. Through a comprehensive methodology involving literature review, theoretical framework

development, design prototypes, collaborative workshops, and ethical considerations,

"MediaSculpt" aims to contribute to the discourse on the evolution of agency, the interplay

of intelligence and computation, and the societal impact of architectural design in the

computational age. The project offers insights, design prototypes, and ethical guidelines

for the responsible integration of technology in architectural practice, pushing the

boundaries of design innovation in the contemporary built environment.

Objectives:

To Investigate how ancient Indian architecture principles and traditional spatial concepts

can be adapted and reinterpreted using modern technology to c reate a fusion of the past

and the present.

To Explore how media technology, including augmented reality, interactive projections,

and responsive surfaces, can enhance architectural narratives and user experiences.

To Examine the implications of integrating artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms and

generative design techniques in architectural creation, challenging traditional notions of

authorship and agency.

To Investigate the social, political, and economic dimensions of architectural design in the

computational age, considering how architectural narratives and spaces influence and are

influenced by society.
